A Few Words on Acne

It’s clear by now that spring 2015 will see the return of seventies fashion — albeit a highly romanticised version of the seventies where Farrah Fawcett never existed — by way of figure-hugging knits and sleek flares. In the brand’s typical style, the Acne Studios show depicted another side to the 1970s, in all its louche glory.

It was all about décolletage; smocks were sexed up with plunging necklines, and wide-collared silk shirts were worn open at the top — the latter coming in an array of suggestive fruit prints (#ComeHitherCumquat? No?). As is customary to an Acne collection, the colour palette was so wrong it was right. Mustard and teal aren’t particularly chic in my books, but somehow they worked. I’m laying it down to the silhouettes, which can best be described as ‘oversized, with restraint where necessary’.

Now someone please get Veronica Corningstone in one of those silk shirts, stat.
