An Update of Sorts (Nails, Comics, Kitties, Oh My!)

Hey Everyone!

Just dropping in to do a catch-all update of sorts for what I’ve been up to over the past few weeks of sucking at posting on my blog. This post will contain various NOTDs, noms, the ever-changing state and color of my hair, my kitty-beans, etc! YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED. ^_^

What’s Been On My Nails!

Here’s a few different NOTDs that I’ve been sporting over the past month or so.

As soon as I got my Black Milk Merman leggings I absolutely KNEW that I had to make my manicure match my legs. ^_^ I used Color Club Beyond and one of my MASH nail art plates for this mani. Love love LOVE. I wore this manicure for weeks.

And here’s a quick and dirty video from my Vine account of the Merman Mani in action. Tipwear galore because as I said before, I had been wearing this for WEEKS.

This was my NOTD from a few weeks back. In hindsight I should have saved this look for Memorial Day. I think I’ll do it again for the 4th of July! This is Blue-Berry Sweet on You by NOPI, David Bowie’s Bulge and Love Letter to Kurt Vonnegut by Scofflaw Nail Varnish.

My bestie Sarah asked for tribal nails for her college graduation mani, and I couldn’t turn her down. Here’s how my trial run looked on a nail swatch. I can’t remember what nail polishes I used for this manicure though. I think it was OPI Mermaid Tears and RBL Opague Nude.

And here’s the final result on Sarah’s nails. They lasted quite a while after her graduation too. ^_^

A late night mani with China Glaze Pelican Grey and Ninja Polish Mystic Glacier layered over it!! Mystic Glacier is friggen GORGEOUS. I will definitely devote an entire post to swatching this beauty with ALL THE MACROS!

And this is what I currently have on my nails. Sally Hansen Sugar Coat in Sour Apple and Milani Texture in Yellow Mark (pardon the dry skin, I hadn’t lotioned up yet ). ^_^ I have quite a few of these new textured creme nail polishes to show you all. I’m thinking a spam-a-thon post in the future.

New Hair and Ink!!

Soooo, remember when I colored my hair burgundy and red about 2 months ago? Well, I decided that wasn’t drastic enough and now I’ve got bright neon fuchsia locks. I LOVE IT. And I also finished my latest tattoo!

Here my new hair in its native curly state. This was a 85-90% dry wash-n-go style right after a homemade deep conditioning treatment, which apparently my hair LOVES. I’m pretty much never buying store-bought deep conditioners again, haha! The color I used is Special Effects Virgin Rose. It’s so amazing. In some lighting it’s this vibrant shocking pink fuchsia and in lower light it has more of a purple glow to it. Annnnnnd it’s black-light reactive!

This was also my first time bleaching my entire head. My last foray into bleach territory was a disaster (over processed, brittle hair that was breaking off). But I did my research this time to see what would work for my hair type. I deep conditioned for 2 days in a row BEFORE bleaching. Then we used bleach with 40 volume developer, with avocado oil and MOAR conditioner added to it. And after we did the bleach I dyed it with Virgin Rose. We could use this dye the same day as bleach because Special Effects is plant-based and less damaging for my hair. If it was a regular box or ammonia based dye I would have waited a few days after bleaching to dye it so I wouldn’t over-process my hair, which was my mistake last time. And theeeen I deep conditioned my hair for another 3 days straight after coloring it, my hair feels amaaazing and I didn’t lose my curl pattern. Not saying that this will work for everyone, but I wanted to share my experience for what worked for me.

Same wash-n-go from the picture above, but 3-4 days later. See what I mean? My hair looooves deep conditioner. I can get my wash-n-gos to last almost a full week now. It’s been almost a month now since I dyed it and it’s just as vibrant as day one! ^_^

And for shiggles, this is what my hair looked like after bleaching out the red and burgundy! My boyfriend, roomie and friend who was helping me dye it almost convinced me to leave it like this for a few days! Maybe next time.

My latest tattoo by Dan Pemble of Sacred Tattoo Studio was completed last month. It’s a barn owl and I absolutely adore it! This photo was taken by Dan right after we finished my final session. It was half previously healed, and half fresh ink (dem pores!).

And this gloriously blurry photo was snapped by me doing my best contortionist impression to try to get the best angles for this picture. Trying to photograph the back of your own arm is tricky, but I think this shows of the true depth of color in this piece really well. ^_^

What I’m Reading

I’m still heavily into comic book/graphic novel mode and taking a break from heavier novels and books for the time being. My staples are still The Walking Dead, Chew, Fables, Fairest, and Saga. Here’s some new ones I’ve added to the list:

Locke & Key has become a new favorite for me. It’s intense, brutal and times, and the story is so compelling and really unique! I’ve caught up completely on this one, having recently finished Locke & Key: Omega #4. I’m pretty sure Omega #5 drops soon so I’ll need to pick that one up immediately. ^_^

Unwritten is very new to me, I’ve only finished issue #1 but the story seems intriguing. Plus they’re doing a crossover with Fables starting at issue #50 releasing in June so I’ve got some catching up to do.

OMG… I know this isn’t a new series to me, but can someone come cry with me because the way issue #129 of Fables ended was…. Pretty earth shattering. I shed some real tears y’all.

And for those that wonder where I get my comics from, I use TFAW.com. They are seriously the best! We don’t have a local comic shop where I live but TFAW is really the next best thing, or even better! They have a HUGE selection, great pricing and shipping rates, and you can create an online subscription pull list and do pre-orders. I’ve been using them since the beginning of the year and I have zero complaints. ^_^

Brace Yourself: Recipes Are Coming!

I’ve been slacking hardcore on the NOMS portion of my blog, but I will remedy that. I’ve got at least 3, maybe 4 recipes to share with you all. So stay tuned!

Bacon, egg and toast cups created by yours truly. These were absolutely heavenly and so easy! I will be posting a recipe for these before the end of the week.

Salted Brown Butter and Biscoff (Cookie Spread) Crispy Treats. YAAAAAAAAAAAAASSSSS. I even converted my friend Sarah, who doesn’t like rice crispy treats, into loving these bad boys. Like. For real… SO GOOD.

Ramen with homemade ajitsuke tamago (marinated Japanese soft-boiled egg). This was my first down and dirty attempt to make these bad boys and OH MY DAYUM they turned out so good! I have promised many folk the recipe for these too so it’ll pop up on my blog very soon.

Cheesy bacon bites. These were phucking delicious, but I could only eat 2 of them because they are seriously heart attack city. I can post a recipe for these if you all want me to, but I won’t be held responsible for your clogged arteries.

Black Milk Everything!

Why yes, I’m still obsessed with Black Milk Clothing. I’m pretty much at the point where I don’t wear jeans anymore, haha! Here’s some of my newer pieces from them:

The Dollar leggings. I couldn’t let these sell out from their limited list without snagging a pair. Best decision ever because I absolutely love them! I feel like I could be part of the Illuminati in them.

My aforementioned Merman leggings and A Tribe Called White reversible skater dress. The dress is sooooo shiny!

One of my new favorites, behold Cthulhu in dress form!! I have worn this and my 3D Ribs dress out the most. ^_^

3D Ribs dress!! This is hands down my new favorite dress that I own from them. It comes with a pair of red/blue lens 3D glasses, and it’s really 3D when you wear the glasses!! I wore this out a few times and literally got at least 20 different compliments from people. One guy described me as ‘Skeletor’s Sexy Evil Wife’. I mean, that’s high praise. And also a possible Halloween costume idea.

Cats of the Now

And to round things out, here’s two out of the three from my gaggle of cats. No real reason for these pics other than YAY CATS!

Clarence is a heavy sleeper. I like putting stuff on my cats. This is the result. I have a video on my Vine account (@nailsandnoms) of him sleeping/being extremely tolerant of my shenanigans through all of this.

And here’s a macro shot taken with my iPhone of Chauncey hiding under a blanket. This picture turned out so good for unknown reasons, haha! It’s probably my new favorite of his squishy little face. ♥

And to end this epic post of epicness, this would be Chauncey as my cat beard. I did several of these with all three of my cats, but this one is so far my favorite. And if you’re unfamiliar with cat beards, check out the 25 Most Epic Cat Beards of All Time via Buzzfeed.

Do you all enjoy these little (gigantic and picture heavy) compilation posts that I do on occasion? I know it’s all stuff you’ve seen before if you follow me regularly on Instagram, but if you enjoy seeing these I’ll post them more often to fill in the gaps of my non-nail polish and makeup review posts!

And on May 6th I had yet another blogiversary sneak up on me. Nails and Noms is 2 years old now!! Thank you all for those that have been reading from the beginning to those that have just stumbled lost onto my blog for the first time today. I luvvv you gals (and guys.. you never know) from the bottom of my

boingloings heart and I wanted thank you all for sticking with me through my down times. *huggles*
