Reflections on #MLK: Raise your voice!

“Moreover, I am cognizant of the interrelatedness of all communities and states. I cannot sit idly by in Atlanta and not be concerned about what happens in Birmingham. Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. We are caught in an inescapable network of mutuality, tied in a single garment of destiny. Whatever affects one directly, affects all indirectly. Never again can we afford to live with the narrow, provincial “outside agitator” idea.”

A call to justice, to standing up for right, to daring to speak truth to power. Martin Luther King Jr. Is one of my heroes. He was a learned man and gifted orator, but he chose to step out from behind the pulpit and walk in the dangerous streets. He knew very well the dangers inherent in his actions, in speaking out for freedom and in inciting rebellion against injustice. And yet, he did it anyway.

On this day, as we remember Martin Luther King Jr. and the incredible work that he did, may we embrace his call to action. It is my hope that each of us will instill this truth within our hearts and that it will move us to believe and behave as though we are world changers.

MLK said,”Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter.”

Let us refuse to be silent. With love and hope, let us raise our voices, raise our heads, and step forward into making this world a better place.
