5 Favorites: Artists to Know

Ever since I was a little kid I have loved art. I love creating it, admiring it, and knowing that it has been a key component of my career. As I’ve gotten older some of my tastes have changed, but many have not – I still love bright colors and modern lines. And I still appreciate design work with animals (cat prints are the bombdotcom). So today for my five favorites I thought I’d share some of the artists I’ve been admiring right now. Each of them have their own unique aesthetic, but no matter how simple the subject matter, you can tell they pay great attention to detail.

1. Ken Wong

The Australian artist has a dark aesthetic that mixes humans with nature, but when it comes to his game associated work, its vibrant and more geometric (like above). He’s versatile in style and the designer behind the awesome maze game app Monument Valley. He’s done some pretty cool gaming posters for Mario Brothers and Street Fighter too. You can check him out here.

2. Cat Coquillette

Cat’s branded portfolio is impressive, but it’s her personal work that I enjoy most. Her feminine designs mix florals with handwritten scripts and her nature-inspired pieces (we’re talking tree cross sections, seahorses and plant life) are minimalistic and playful. Her use of negative space is spot on too.

3. Liese Chavez

There is a solum and muted look to her paintings that draws you in to each piece and can lock your eyes for hours. She paints females and a mix of animals like this mischievous looking cat. She’s won multiple awards and features many of her pieces in a gallery she owns in Colorado. Liese has a more traditional and victorian aesthetic, much different from the more vibrant modern pieces from other artists I love.

4. Three of the Possessed

Three of the Possessed sell their work on Society 6 and offer a range of bold geometric prints and products. I love the depth and color choices of these pieces. Always cool to see artists use graphic expression to create mood, and we all know I love diamonds! Plus, with the range of items offered through Society 6, you can inject a little piece of Three of the Possessed into every facet of your life.

5. Jenny Liz Rome

An illustrator who has an amazing understanding of water color and mix media, Jenny’s work is powerful and completely original. Her layered prints of beautiful women start from collaged images. The final product is captivating – the one above amongst others have a true 80s/90s vibe that I can’t get enough of. She’s also done branding designs for beauty and fashion brands, where her designs truly enhance the packaging. You can see more of her work on her website. It’s bad ass.

Who are some of your favorite artists?
