Joining Crochet Motifs with Craftsy

There's a myriad of different ways to join crochet together and it's something that has been on my mind a lot lately. I've started working on some tutorials for Crochet Corner so that I can share with you of some of my favourite methods for joining and as it's a subject I'm often asked about I know it's something you ponder too.
So getting an opportunity to try out one of Craftsy's classes, Joining Crochet Motifs with Edie Eckman, on that very subject has came along at just the right moment for me. Better yet, you'll get the chance to win a free entry to that very same class for yourself at the end of the post.
Now, last time I tried out a Craftsy class, I had no idea what it would be like so there were no expectations to meet. This time however, my hopes were pretty high. I'd enjoyed my first class and so I was really looking forward to this one. Especially as it was taken by Edie Eckman no less, a true crochet star! I was quite excited and I'm pleased to say that I was not at all disappointed.

But this class is one you have to pay for, so it needed to prove itself.
It costs a fraction under $40 in US dollars, that's around £24 in the UK, and I was keeping a sharp look out to see what you'll be getting for handing over your hard-earned pennies to see if it represented good value.
I honestly don't think you'll be disappointed, let me tell you why...
Did I mention that the class was by Edie Eckman? Yes, I did, but it's worth saying again. I would imagine that what this lady doesn't know about crochet could be written on the back of a stamp, so you are assuredly in safe hands here. Not only that, but the big difference between a free class and a paid class is that you get to ask the instructors themselves questions. So if you think of a question for Edie while you're watching along, you can just join the class discussions and ask away!
Then there's the content of the class itself to consider. The paid classes are a lot longer that the free ones, and they pack in plenty of information. It's all broken down into manageable chunks though so you won't be overwhelmed and the good news is that you can access the classes whenever you like and as often as you want. That means that you can take each part of the class when you are ready too. Not only that, but once you have taken them you'll want to revisit them again and again to refresh your memory on everything you've learnt.

This class covers 9 different joining techniques, which is probably as many as you'd ever need, but that's just for starters. To enable you to test out those out, you'll get an entire blanket pattern (17 pages worth) including 9 different granny square motifs. Then there's also all the little extra techniques that you learn along the way. It gives you an overview to get you started on reading charts, shows you how to make standing stitches to start your rounds and how to make an invisible finishes to end them, shows you how to make 'fillers' to join up awkward gappy corners as well as giving you some examples of how all the techniques you've been learning can be applied to other shapes.
I think that's all adding up to pretty good return on your investment straight away but when you consider that the techniques you'll learn in this class you'll be no doubt be using for the rest of your crochet life it seems to me that it's money well spent.
