The Ants Have Cancelled Marching for Today.

I have a couple of pets around the house. There is my pet spider, "Fluffy" . . . and then I had a momentary connection between me and an ant, I was going to call "Fluffy."

Ants aren't normally allowed in the house, mainly because they seem to have mistaken the house for the bathroom and they always bring a girlfriend when they come in - like 500 girlfriends. They snoop. They run around and look in all the cupboards and drawers . . . so frankly "Fluffy" was lucky to have been allowed on the window sill. It made me think about, just for a moment, that maybe I should call him "Lucky" but that is such a lame name for an ant. It was probably that brief moment of indecision that prevented me from actually proclaiming the little feller as "Fluffy."

Anyway he wanted to pick up something off the window sill and so he tried and it kind of scooted along so he dropped it and ran around to the other side and tried again and it scooted in the other direction. He was not a lazy dude, he was going to lift it and take it back to the camp. It was quite amazing to watch him run back and forth trying to figure out how he could pick it up. I am pretty sure I saw him scratching his head when he stopped at one point. Finally he took a run at it and picked it up and he kind of wove back and forth and went near the edge and suddenly gravity took over and the item tipped down and the ant followed it, he was not letting go . . .

I had to put him down. You can't leave animals to suffer like that. . . and besides he had crossed the line of where ants are allowed.

Now I am online trying to find out whether I can bury an unnamed ant in a church graveyard or whether he is considered unworthy of holy ground. You have to respect people's religions.

I am dressed in complete black today, and I am flying the flag at half mast. I also am listening to Stairway to Heaven and crying a lot. Some ants you just really have that immediate bond with. I am not sure I will ever be able to replace him. He was so special.

In unrelated news no-one spoke to me at all today, it was maybe the longest day ever. I don't think it is healthy for people to leave me alone for such long periods of time. I know an ant that wouldn't argue with that.
