Ok guys, so It’s been waaaaaaaaaay too long since I’ve made us some burgers! Last night I finally caved to the cravings and made some for dinner. A girls gotta have her burger fix, ya know?! Dudes need em, too. So let’s do this!
These Arugula & Apple Turkey Burgers with Caramelized Onions are a fun twist on the classic, and really great if you’re in the mood for something a little different (and healthy).
They’re packed with spicy arugula leaves, grated apple, shallots, and some great spices, and they’re topped with - what in my opinion is the best burger topping in the whole wide world – caramelized onions! Caramelized onions really just make everything they touch dreamy and delicious.
These bad boys are definitely not lacking in flavor!
This recipe serves 4, so it’s great for a family (you can always double it up if your family is really BIG), but also great for a couple who loves leftovers We ate our “seconds” for lunch yesterday and they tasted even better than day 1. That’s what I call a crazy win!
Happy Thursday you guys; we’re almoooooooost there!
xo

Arugula Turkey Burgers with Caramelized Onions – Baker by Nature
Serves 4
Ingredients:
For the caramelized onions
3 tablespoons olive oil
2 large onions, thinly sliced
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon sugar
For the Arugula Turkey Burgers
1 pound ground turkey meat
1 1/2 cups baby arugula leaves, chopped
1/2 small apple, peeled and grated
1 teaspoon lemon zest
1 shallot, diced VERY tiny
1 tablespoon Italian seasoning
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
1/4 teaspoon cumin
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
2 cloves garlic, minced VERY tiny
3/4 cup panko crumbs
1 teaspoon worchestier sauce
1 large egg
4 burger buns, toasted
Instructions:
In a large, heavy pan heat olive oil over medium flame. Add onions and cook for 35 – 40 minutes, stirring occasionally, until they are soft and deep amber in color.
While the onions caramelize, make your turkey burgers!
In a large bowl combine all of the ingredients (minus the burger buns!) and mix well with hands. Divide meat mixture into 4 even balls, and lightly pat them into round patties. Heat a large skillet over a medium high flame and cook burgers on each side for 4-5 minutes, or until the middle is no longer pink (I usually cut into one of the burgers right around the 8 minute mark to check). Place cooked burgers on buns, and top with caramelized onions. Serve right away.
