Anything Goes Linky #148, Features, And Breast Cancer!

Oh friends, how I had anticipated great news, I truly was feeling better after surgery last week. Sadly on Tuesday my doctors appointment did not go according to plan. The four lumps removed on my left breast were determined to be benign. The right biopsies however had to be sent to the Stanford Pathology Department gurus for further testing. I was told it would most likely take three more weeks to receive the outside biopsy consultation. Then Thursday, late afternoon, I received a call from my doctors office. Results came back quicker then expected from Stanford. I have a non invasive small ductal carcinoma in my right breast! It's hard for me to even bring myself to say that I have breast cancer. It's scary, but the good news is it's small, and non invasive, meaning that it appears contained and to have not spread to any other part of my body. I am looking at radiation treatment, and pills, no chemo. I will learn more when I meet with her on Monday. She is an excellent doctor, a breast specialist, and the one who performed my surgery. The only downfall is she is out of state, but only about 1 1/2 hours away. She said we will also discuss further testing, to determine if I carry the breast cancer gene. I personally want to petition for Insurance companies to make screening standard. If they are all for early detection, and preventative medicine, it only makes sense. If a simple blood test can determine if you need to start mammograms earlier then 40, why aren't they recommending them. I am 36 years old, I don't have a family history of breast cancer, which makes this all more surprising. Both of my biological grandmothers are still alive, and have their breasts. I don't smoke, I try to eat healthy, and I exercise everyday. One of the reasons I am sharing so much of myself on the blog, is that I hope I may encourage women everywhere to be proactive about their health. Second, I don't think it's healthy to keep secrets from friends, and you all are a part of my life.
In the mean time, know that your words of encouragement are all read, and much appreciated. You all have helped me make it this far, and I am truly grateful and blessed for each and everyone of you. I might not get back to each of you, that is only because I am throwing myself into designing, to keep my brain from going to the dark side. My blog and shop have really been a blessing, keeping me busy. Sitting idle is the worst thing for me to do right now. The good news is, April is a busy month for me. This weekend we are celebrating our youngest son's 5th birthday! On the 11th my husband and I are sponsoring a junior high fundraiser dance, for our oldest son's G.A.T.E program. I will be in charge of a Spring photo booth, and my husband, who moonlights as a photographer and DJ, will be bringing the lights and music. I am also still waiting for an interview date for that new food show on TNT, I told you all about, earlier this year. They still don't know if I will be interviewing in San Fran or LA. So I might even be flying here and there this month. Then of course there's Easter, one of my favorite times of year. Speaking of Easter, how about a few Spring features from last weeks party:
