2013 Calico Bride Winners

The noise of onlookers echoed as large garment bags were unzipped while we eagerly awaited the annual student design competition ‘Calico Brides’. We are very proud to announce that the tertiary section winner, runner up and highly commended prizes were all awarded to AICD students! The student winner for the best calico creation was awarded to Amelia Vivash, who designed and effortlessly executed an eye-catching statement black calico bridal gown. Runner up of the night was awarded to Felicia Austin and Anessa Catalano was honored with a special mention for her calico embraced bridal design.

This year the event was held at Saint Peter’s Lutheran College at Indooroopilly on Thursday the 10th of October and was sponsored by Queensland Brides magazine and Hilde Heim. The event is a fantastic, educational and innovative opportunity for students to network and further build their design and fabric skills. The event was judged by Brad Webb from DARB Bridal, Lynne Hill from QLD Brides magazine and Dee Grace from Grace Bridal.

Prizes for the competition winners include a publication in Queensland Brides Magazine, work experience opportunities, a spotlight fabric voucher and their designs in Hilde Heim’s shop window. These students are currently studying the Diploma of Applied Fashion Design and Technology at our Brisbane campus. Congratulations to all the other students that participated in this large event and who made it through to the finals. All of our student designs showed impressive innovation and creativity.
