Did Miss USA Deserve Miss Universe 2012 Crown?
A few days ago I woke up and Miss Philippines was trending on Twitter. A lot of people were trashing Miss USA and saying Miss Philippines deserves the crown. They said that Olivia Culpo’s answer was not good. I was surprised after I saw the answer. Before I add my two cents, I just want to make a few points clear. To be honest, I don’t care about beauty pageants in general and especially Miss Universe. It is hard to take Donald Trump seriously. People take these beauty contests too seriously, the girl who is best for the business will win. I did not watch the show and my opinion is based on what I have read. I am not planning to do research to back it up. It won’t be the end of the world because of a silly beauty pageant. This was my first reaction.

The first time I saw the answer, I felt like I have known this girl forever. The more I read it, the more I like her. She is just like you and me, like any normal girl we see on the street. We make mistake and we learn from it.
USA’s answer might not be as perfect as Philippines but it was more relatable. Pageant answers are too fake. They act way too much on the stage. Philippines had a more pageant-friendly answer but USA was more real. The girl was HONEST. It is so hard to find one like that nowadays especially in a beauty pageant.
Being beautiful doesn’t mean you have to be the most gorgeous girl or being the smartest. Being beautiful is being yourself and show the world your best.
At the end of the day, do I want a perfect girl who knows how to act to represent the world’s beauty? NO. I want an honest regular girl with big dream just like you and me.
Olivia Culpo did a great job with her answer. She was being true to herself. She is a real beauty in a fake world.
