Temperatures may be dipping in the Northern Hemisphere but for our friends south of the equator things are starting to heat up. I thought Ico’s super cute denim style shorts and cute project photos might provide a little inspiration for those of you looking for a quick warm weather project. I also can’t wait to see her next pair in that super cute polka dot denim in her post!

What type of fabric / materials did you use? “At the beginning I wanted to use a medium weight fabric as it was suggested in the instructions but the polka dot denim fabric I had bought on Etsy didn’t arrived on time for the summer. So, I finally used a lightweight cotton that looks like denim, which I had already used for a summer dress. The advantage of sewing a pair of shorts like these ones is that you don’t need so much fabric! I decided to give them a personal touch using a floral fabric for the pocket lining.”

Tell us more about your project! “I had never sewn a pair of trousers before, so I really enjoyed the process of sewing these shorts. As a beginner seamstress, I was scared about inserting a fly front zipper but finally it was easy and funny to see how it turns out. I am really happy with the result but I think I will cut a smaller size next time.

I made these Maritime shorts at the end of the summer, just on time for holidays. I love Grainline patterns because the garments you make from them become the most wearable clothes of your handmade wardrobe. They are patterns for daily life! Now the Polka dot denim fabric is waiting impatiently for next summer to be transformed into a new pair of Maritime shorts.”
