Don’t get me wrong, I love Instagram. But after playing with the new photography app Trover for the past few weeks, I’ve found it’s just much more useful for travel. Why?
Before I travel somewhere new, I always use photography to help inspire my decision on where to go and what to do. I’ve discovered some of the coolest places and embarked on my craziest adventures because of browsing travel photography online.
That’s what Trover was made for. Sharing and searching for great travel ideas through photography.

Tips For Using Trover
First of all, not only can you search for photos by country or city using their intuitive interface, but it’s possible to scroll down from the initial destination to view even more beautiful photos nearby.
Places you may not have known existed.
Next, when you click on a photo to learn more about it, you actually learn more about it! The descriptions share very useful details about how to get there, when to visit, what to do, and more.
You can even post links in the description too (unlike Instagram), providing much more useful information for others. Like, say, if you have a full blog post about your experience.
Sharing your photos, or “discoveries” on Trover is easy too. You can upload images using their iPhone app (Android coming soon), or on your computer. Either interface is a pleasure to use.

Plan Adventures With Trover
I’ve been using Trover to help plan my trip to Turkey later this month. Whenever I’m browsing other people’s discoveries in Turkey, I’ll save my favorites to a list called “Secrets of Turkey”.
Then, once I’m actually there, I’ll visit the locations that I’ve saved on the list. It’s much more helpful than attempting to find things on Instagram, which is full of hashtag spammers posting photos that have absolutely nothing to do with the hashtags…
Even here in Madrid I’m learning about epic photo locations nearby.
I’ve been sharing some of my own favorite travel photos on Trover too, with useful tips about those locations.
