Meet Selfie, the App That’s Re-inventing the Selfie (and How to Use It)

Us Millennial’s are quite the interesting bunch. We’re all in debt (thanks college!), we’re less likely to get married in our twenties, and we’re totally okay with taking pictures of our food for Instagram. But here’s the biggest thing that makes us interesting — we created the selfie.

The first time I saw someone take a selfie was during my freshman year of college in 2007. My boyfriend’s little sister came over and I caught her in the other room taking a picture of herself with a flip phone. I thought it was extremely odd.

Fast-forward seven years, and everyone’s doing it. Some taking multiple selfies a day. And we’re totally okay with it! Myself included. But here’s the problem with selfies, they’re usually too over-the-top and fake. But Selfie, a newly launched app wants to change that.

With Selfie, it’s less about the angles and filters and more about letting your personality shine through. Selfie is the app where you can talk face-to-face, publicly and privately through 24-second-or-less videos.

Since this app is all about the moving image, it has to be used differently than what you’re used to. Below are a few tips on how to use this awesome new app. Enjoy!

1. Be Yourself

Though you can re-take selfies, usually the first one has your genuine and natural thoughts and emotions; don’t think about it too much and just say what’s on your mind.

2. There’s No Need for Makeup

Selfie isn’t about filters or looking polished all the time — many people selfie from their beds first thing in the morning or in the evening sans makeup.

3. Ask Questions

Since Selfie is about the conversations just as much as the individual, don’t let your feed be a one-way street. Be curious and engaging by asking questions! Get to know people behind their image. Consider asking your followers what their favorite restaurant is, or where they wish they could vacation.

4. Show your Environment

The background of a selfie can speak volumes to your life. People on Selfie get to know what other people’s apartments/offices/neighborhoods look like. Natural lighting helps too!
