3 Brilliant Hair Care Tips — All under $5

Your hair is usually the first thing people notice about you, so it’s extremely important your hair is always on-point. The main problem with this is many hair companies charge a ridiculous amount for their products. They will have you believe that you need to invest in expensive products in order to keep your hair looking perfect.

The good news is that this isn’t true! Below are a few tips on how to maintain healthy locks — all under $5!

1. Make The Most of Your Cheap Conditioner

Heated styling tools and hair are definitely frenemies, so if you use items such as HSI flat iron products on a regular basis, you need to give your hair lots of deep conditoning treatments. Unfortunatly, many people are under the impression that cheap conditioning products don’t do the job, but they can — you just need to know how to use them.

The trick is time. We are used to putting conditioner on and washing it off a few minutes later. Instead, put the conditioner onto your clean wet hair and leave it on for a few hours.

For even more moisture, cover your hair with a plastic bag or shower cap. Then run a hair dryer over it to warm it up. The heat allows the conditioner to penetrate your hair shaft more.

2. Inject Energy Into Your Hair

You might not realize it but coffee can work well on your hair too. It is really only recommended that you use this on dark hair though as it can stain your hair for a few days. You simply mix coffee granules with a little hot water to make up a very strong coffee mix. You then add this to conditioner to create a thick dark mix.

You then add this to wet hair, and then rinse it off a few hours later. If you can wear it overnight (you’ll need to wrap a towel around your hair to protect your bed sheets) then even better.

3. Use Food

If you are looking for a quick and affordable way to give your hair some TLC, then look no further than your kitchen. For starters, you can try rinsing your hair with a can of beer after it has been washed. This will make your hair shiny. If you have a bit more time then you can slather your hair in mayonnaise and leave it for a few hours. It sounds like a strange thing to use, but it really does work — especially if you have damaged hair.

If you have nothing on hand but you want to give your hair a bit of extra shine, then wash your hair in cool water. We are all tempted to wash our hair in hot water but cold water works best. This method can also prevent frizz.
