Jean Paul Gaultier- an interview and an exhibit

Very occasionally, blogging offers up some truly unforgettable experiences. Friday night was one of them for me, when I was invited by Wall Street Journal magazine to attend an interview with Jean Paul Gaultier about his latest exhibit (now being shown at the a Brooklyn museum) followed by a viewing of the exhibit itself on opening day. The interview itself was a fantastic insight into the man himself, his thoughts on muses, sailor stripes, his childhood inspirations, and working with Madonna. Did you know that the cone bra was first tried out on JPGs childhood teddy bear?!

The exhibit itself was truly wonderful. Hands down the best I've seen (...although I never caught the Alexander McQueen exhibit whist it was here- I have no doubts that one would have been equally incredible). The exhibit ranged from Gaultier's classic corsetry, denim and sailor stripes, through the punk era and to 'la Parisienne'. The intricate detail on each of the pieces is so stunning, as much as I tried to take clear photos, you can only really experience it in its true perfection in person.

Such a great evening and one I'll never forget, thanks WSJ magazine!
