diy off the shoulder top

This top is incredibly easy to make. If you have ever made a gathered skirt before, then you are in luck because that is basically all this shirt is!
What you need...
  • Eyelet fabric (I used just over a yard)
  • Elastic
  • Sewing machine & scissors
  • Measuring tape

First measure around your shoulders and add an inch or two. We need to make sure that the tube of fabric that we are going to cut will be wide enough to fit over your shoulders. Also determine the length of your top. Don't forget to add length for hemming your shirt, and length for folding over the fabric where we will be adding elastic. Also remember that you will need some space for seam allowances.
Measure around the top of your chest and back where the shirt will hang. Cut a piece of elastic to that measurement.
Cut your fabric! Super easy, right? You are essentially just cutting squares. Measure twice, cut once.
Measure each arm of where you would like the sleeves to fall on, and add a couple inches to that measurement. You will also need to cut a piece of elastic for each arm, making sure the elastic is tight to your arm.
I hemmed each piece before sewing my side seams together, then made the elastic casings.. To make your elastic casings, fold the top of the fabric over and sew around. Leave an inch open so that you can feed the elastic through by using a safety pin. Once you have the elastic through, make sure it is straight and not folded and sew the ends of the elastic together. After you have sewn the ends together, you can sew the opening shut. Do this for the two sleeves and the body of the shirt.

Last step is just to attach the sleeves to the body! See, I told you it was easy! Leave a note below if you have any questions.
