All-American

Ever since Zooey Deschanel debuted her capsule collection of dresses with Tommy Hilfiger, it was love at first sight.

…Especially with this “Modical” (mod nautical) inverted shift dress. Which took me a good month or so to find online.

I knew the upcoming summer season would present an ample amount of opportunity, but I’ve been eager as ever for an excuse to wear this piece. You know how you hold off on wearing something until the “right” time or event? No? Come on — I know I’m not alone on this.

Thus, when the opportunity arose to grab a backpack, plant my ass on a picnic blanket, swill champagne and watch men riding horses, I knew it was time to debut the dress.

After a seemingly endless winter and nearly nonexistent spring (sigh), I believe it’s safe to say that the 7th Annual Veuve Clicquot Polo Classic marked the start of summer in the tri-state area.

… And I have the awkward tan lines and sunburn to prove it.

My all-American ensemble of red, white and blue seemed only fitting for the weekend’s festivities – and that’s what I’m (still) trying to convince myself in regard to Sunday’s champagne hangover…

I’ll be recapping the golden moments before, during and after the polo match (Fashion Week style!) later today, but I thought I’d share the details of my outfit in the meantime:

The Panama hat was essential, of course, as were flat sandals. We did an ample amount of walking — and, well, a good amount of sprinting – but we’ll get to that…

*Wearing: Tommy Hilfiger inverted pleat shift dress (sold out — similar here, here and here), Marlena backpack c/o MZ Wallace (on sale!), J.Crew Panama hat, Tory Burch sunglasses, ankle-strap sandals c/o Tommy Hilfiger
