On our way back to Germany we had a three-day stop-over in Bangkok. We arrived late in the afternoon, went for dinner at a very cute Japanese restaurant and then we decided to keep on walking to discover some of the city's night markets, which turned out to be a big mistake... While we were walking on the pavement a man on a motor scooter drove past us and suddenly grabbed my bag and hit the gas. I felt like my arm was being ripped out and I was so surprised that at first I couldn't let go. It was such a classic, but we were so tired and inattentive. Luckily, our passports and credit cards were all stored in the hotel safe, but I my iPhone was in the bag as well as some cash and my favorite LV Leopard print scarf. However, I was just so happy that I got away with only some bruises and scratches. It could have been far worse. So my boyfriend and I spent our first night in Bangkok in an emergency room where we were the attraction and where I felt like in an episode of a Thai Grey's Anatomy when five medical students were watching the nurse rinse my scratch. Afterwards we were escorted to the police department with flashing blue lights. They had my incident recorded and then drove us back to the hotel. I was so tired that despite the shocking experience I slept all night. The next morning we had to go back to the hospital to see a doctor and then we had the police report translated in order to have all the necessary documents for my insurance company. And then, after all this trouble, we could finally start enjoying our time in Bangkok. But before I tell you more I want to officially thank all the nice people who took care of us that night - the family who called the police, the hotel staff who took care of us before the police arrived, the police officers and finally the nurses and doctors at the hospital. They were all super-friendly and helpful! So apart from being robbed what did we do and see in Bangkok? Well, of course we went shopping on the night markets big time. It was so much fun to bargain... We enjoyed the food on the streets - despite my initial worries I must admit that it really tastes great and we had no stomach problems at all. We went to see the reclining buddha at Wat Pho, one of the oldest and largest wats of Bangkok where we shot the first bunch of pictures you see in this post. Can you spy my little Winnie-the-Pooh-patch covering my scratch? The next day we climbed up the Golden Mount. We also went to the famous Khao San road twice. Once we got into a heavy rain shower and the whole road was overflooded. You could watch all the cockroaches and rats fleeing from the rain, which was quite an experience. On our last night in Bangkok we went clubbing and enjoyed a very funny and pretty cool live performance of a Thai band that sounded a little bit like The Killers. So to sum up my Bangkok experience: Very interesting and adventurous. If I ever have the chance I'll come back to the city for one or two days!

PS: For those of you who are wondering which of my designer bags was involved in the robbery - it was a Longchamp bag my boyfriend bought for me especially for this holiday having the good sense. And luckily I was insured and I'm currently waiting to receive my new iPhone... It's too bad that my LV scarf is gone (it was a limited edition color), but on the other hand this incident made me realize that I am not attached to all those material things at all. It's great to have them, to wear them, but being safe and healthy and keeping the people I love safe and healthy is so much more important!
