Thrifting 101: Sorting through the madness

Thrifting has gone from something done in the dark to save a bit of money to a past time enjoyed by people from all walks of life, with Bloggers and Youtubers showing off their thrift "hauls" and broadcasting major savings to the world. By now, everyone has tried thrifting and discovered that it's definitely not as easy as it seems. The minute you walk through the doors you're hit with a dense musky smell...that thrift store smell...and surrounded by a crazy amount of insane prints, horrid cuts, and stained clothing. I know I'm making it sound dreadful, but bare with me because by the end of this post you'll be a thrift guru! So here are a few tips to help you master the thrift:
1. Take a deep breath Thrifting can be overwhelming and even disheartening but take a deep breath, realize you'll probably be there for a while, and just (as Trey Songz would say) diiiiive in!
2. Look through every rack In order to score great thrift store finds you have to search through each and every rack. It's super time consuming but as you start finding cool clothes you'll lose track of the time and start having fun!
3. Grab Grab Grab! Scour the store for funky prints, interesting cuts, and cool material. Once something catches your eye toss it in the cart. Don't hesitate or you might miss out on something awesome. The dressing room is where you deliberate.
4. Try on everything If you've been following my advice, by the time you get to the dressing room you'll have 30-40 items. That's perfect! Now, try everything on. Everything. And don't just slide things on and off, really think about the piece and how it will fit into your wardrobe.
5. Think creatively Some pieces will have something off about them. Shoulder pads, odd hem lengths, and weird collars are all prevalent at the thrift store. My advice here is to think about how you or someone else could alter the piece for you (if it's worth it). Do it yourself projects are loads of fun so you'll not only get cute clothes, you'll also gain a hobby!
Welp, now you are all bonafide thrift experts, so go out into the world and find amazing items for super cheap!
Do you guys have any tips to share?
