Our First Full Week

As a learning community, this week we spent a great deal of time figuring out what we all need to learn. After many great ideas, books, conversations and role plays we agreed upon the Essential Learning Agreements listed above. Such great Thinkers (Learner Profile Attribute)!

Being a great listener is a big part of being a kindergartener and a Communicator (Learner Profile Attribute). We created a guided drawing of a giraffe and a fun fruit bowl with our superb listening skills. Both activities, reviewed shapes, colors and directional words (horizontal, vertical, left, right and center).

*These super giraffes remind us to speak Giraffe (our "third" language). The giraffe's large heart reminds up to speak kindly and the long neck reminds us to stick our neck out for our friends. If we are upset by an action, speaking giraffe might sound like this, "I don't like it when you touch my hair. Would you please give me more personal space?" This is also called an I Message, and it helps us to be a clear Communicator!

We had our first Mandarin lesson this week! We met our three Mandarin teachers, practiced a few phrases and saw a very impressive magic trick.

Letters, Letters Everywhere!

We are working hard to learn letter names and sounds, and spending time learning how to correctly write each letter we learn. Has your child talked about the special lines we use (sky, plane, grass and worm)?

In Reader's Workshop we spent the week sharing all we know about what great readers do, how they treat books, and all the interesting places we find letters.










The 5th graders in the Nice Club came by to visit Mrs. Humphrey and Mrs. Taylor's class. What a special visit!
