The Single Statement Earring

As far as I’m concerned, it all started with Madonna. We’re talking the Madonna of the mid-’80s who let her roots show, sucked on lollipops and always wore one oversized cross earring. As with many trends, she was the first female to wear only one big earring — pirates notwithstanding!

The look was recently revived on the runway of Celine — a label known to appeal to the uber-cool understated girl. Time to take the trend seriously. Now before you roll your eyes or panic at the very idea, let me assure you it’s not nearly as scary as it seems! The key is to make sure it’s part of a complete look that’s verges on either punk or arty. Wear a simple metal stud in your other ear, so it’s clear to everyone that your single earring is indeed intentional! Click through for some of my favorites!
