Chocolate your new best friend

Chocolate isn't junk food any more! Here, the health perks of your new favorite super food.

1. Healthier heart. Chocolate may reduce heart disease risk! Research shows that consuming a small bar of dark chocolate every day can reduce blood pressure in individuals with high blood pressure.

2. Weight loss.

Dark chocolate lessens cravings for sweet, salty and fatty foods. According to researchers from the university of Granada in Spain teens who eat lots of chocolate tend to be slimmer.

3. It makes you happier.

Chocolate stimulates endorphin production which gives a feeling of pleasure. It also contains serotonin which acts as an anti-depressant.

4. Healthier brain and higher intelligence.

Chocolate may prevent memory decline in older people. Drinking cocoa rich in flavanols boosts blood flow to key parts of the brain for 2 to 3 hours, which could improve performance and alertness in short term.

5. Lower cholesterol.

Dark chocolate has also been shown to reduce LDL cholesterol (the bad one) by up to 10 percent.

6. It keeps you awake.

Chocolate contains theobromine, caffeine and other substances which act as stimulants.

7. It keeps you young.

Dark chocolate contains a large number of antioxidants (nearly 8 times the number found in strawberries), which protect your body from aging caused by free radicals.
Unfortunately, it may taste good but some research shows that washing your chocolate down with a glass of milk could prevent the antioxidants being absorbed by your body.
