Stila has added to their line of
Magnificent Metal Foil Finish Eye Shadows for the spring - it looks like metals are here to stay! Given the long-term lifespan of the trend, I thought I would give their shadows a try.
The Magnificent Metal line promises cream shadows that dry down to a power finish with multifaceted shine. Used with the All Day Liquid Eye Primer included with the shadow (a shadow, primer, and mixing pan are included in any given set for $32) the finish becomes glossy and can be layered to create an opaque metallic shadow. The shades I have are:
Metallic Pixi Dust: A cool champagne with a green shift
Metallic Jade: A deep jade green
Metallic Lilac: A soft, cool lilac
Metallic Golden Pink: A light baby pink with gold undertones
Metallic Peach: A warm, peach-leaning champagne
Among the 5 shades I have, nearly all were smooth creams that applied evenly, and were easy to work with. The exception is metallic golden pink. It has a flakier consistency in the pan and can lead to a spottier application that turns chunky when mixed with a liquid medium. Beyond this texture inconsistency, however, the line as a whole brings an easier way to incorporate a high fashion, flashy finish into your everyday eye routine without having to worry about creasing or fallout.
Although you get a mixing medium (that can also be used with any pigments or powder shadow you already own), a foiled shadow, and a mixing pan, $32 might be a lot for anyone who won't use these regularly. If that's the case, you might consider NYX's glitter (although after a brief search, I'm not sure they are still in existence), or
BH Cosmetics Loose Makeup Glitter, to get a quick fix when you need it. Those that like to add a pop of shine to the center of the lid or inner corner regularly however, might find investing in a shade like metallic peach or metallic pixi dust worthwhile given how easy these are to use!
Are you feeling the metal finishes for the coming seasons?
