så många gånger, här & på andra platser vi målat såhär;
den där gången när vi klev in i milis hus;
different views from the studio. same color. different light.
{deras celadon primo är närmast i ton, skulle jag tro.}

there’s lime paint fever spreading in the land of milk & honey,
and now so many of you has wondered in comments & asked in e-mails,
that i felt i should write something about the color of my studio walls.
they are not painted with lime paint, but with egg oil tempera.
a december, some years ago, baby sister e, a friend, mom & i,
took an amazing course, to learn how to make our own egg oil tempera.
far, far up in sweden, with snow deeper & deeper, purer & purer.
away from the main roads and into the deep forests of just
endlessly &
white.
past something called 'vekhyttan', a small wooden sign that said 'milis house of color',
~ & over a small bridge was 'norrgården'.
as if time had stopped, or as if we travelled right into a fairy tale.
much like 'norrgården', 'mellangården', ~ & 'sörgården'
from astrid lindgren’s
the children on troublemaker street.
so nordic. so primevally beautiful.
in we came, into a huge wooden house,
stomping white in the hallway and just.. breathing out,
~ & taking in room after room painted in one color more beautiful than the other.
paradoxical, perhaps, for one who loves white, i ’ve never seen anything more beautiful.
maybe it’s because egg oil tempera has been painted with, for more than 500 years.
it's there far back along our spine somehow.
so many times, here and in other places we’ve painted like this;
i’ve seen the reaction i certainly carried myself, like an open book,
that time we stepped into
milis house of color.
all one big smile & a single long, deep sigh.
the color charts contain names like
3rd of september,
23rd of january,
7th of august ..
.. and we weighed, blended and painted, for a few magical days, there in milis
bonfire-heated house of hardwood floors and countless curly sheepskins.
since then there’s just been no other option.
it turns into egg oil tempera in every room, in every house,
wherever we move in my family.
and furthermore, the fact is that the color i’ve got here in the studio,
the one most of you have specific questions about, is just the body color.
we never get past it anymore. cause it’s so crazy beautiful in itself.
against white, against black, against greenery, against pretty much everything..
more so because we were eager to try something different, but still similar,
a while ago i ordered a color chart from kalklitir,
an icelandic company specializing in natural paints,
with stunningly beautiful tones. i haven’t gotten any further since.
but their color chart is probably why you’re wondering if it’s their
palladio or
perhaps their
winter primo that i’m surrounding myself with.
{the
celadon primo is closest in tone, i think, to my egg oil tempera.}
it has to be said, i’m quite spoiled here in the studio though.
the house is a soldier-cottage from the early 1800s with preserved stone walls,
only repaired with plaster by my father's professionally practiced hands.
the walls shift and flow, whispering perhaps of past lives,
carrying the light absolutely in a very magical way,
~ & in
that the egg oil tempera definitely is involved..
i’m sure even so with lime paint.
and that’s what’s going on with my walls.
i wonder if it helped you anything?
never walk on eggshells in life.
dance on them.
x,
