Southern Story Time Tea Party Wedding Inspiration

The initial inspiration for this shoot came from photographer Julie Roberts husband’s extensive collection of antiques. From his treasured book collection to the vintage card catalog that sits in their attic…the idea for this styled shoot seemed so obvious. And she knew these pieces would come together to create the Southern story time tea party wedding inspiration she had bouncing around in her head.

As a photographer playing the role of designer, Julie was grateful for an amazing team of vendors who helped her pull together each element of this shoot, especially the florist, Ruth Babcock with Carol Lynn Events. She not only provided all of the flowers, the flatware, table, and bench…but also helped all day with set up and styling. And what gorgeous styling indeed!

From the photographer:

I’m a Tennesse girl – but I live in Kentucky now. As a result, everything I design is heavily influenced by a southern flare. Our location for this shoot was Ashland, The Henry Clay Estate. We included the formal gardens as well as the grounds with the mansion setting our stately back drop. Our color palette was determined by the antique blue and white tea and china set that once belonged to my husband’s great grandmother. This inspired our use of blue berries on the mini-cakes by Tinker’s Cake Shop, the blue Gabriele D’annunzio suit that the groom wore, and the blueberry mint julep fizz. Those adorable refreshments were a twist on a traditionally southern drink (the mint julep) and looked so beautiful with our table settings!

Fourth Year Studio created a stunning invitation suite that included a hand made book with a laser etched wooden cover and hand painted flowers. The “love quote” escort cards filled the cart catalog giving guests a super cute way to find their seats. Carrying the tea party theme, the tea bag labels doubled as name cards for each place setting. The pink accents were inspired by the moscato colored Stella York gown that we fell in love with from Twirl Boutique. I knew I wanted the flowers to match the airy playfulness of the dress. Ruth of Carol Lynn Originals did an amazing job pulling together a gorgeous assortment garden roses, tulips, ranunculous, and silver dollar eucalyptus to give our table-scape a life of it’s own.
