Romantic Railway Rendezvous by Kelly Is Nice Photography

This beautiful couple wanted to do something different with their engagement session. So they asked Kelly Is Nice Photography to help them create a shoot with cinematic drama.

Kelly had been wanting to shoot at The Southeastern Railway Museum for some time, but she was waiting on the perfect couple. Enter Kory and Ju and it was like a dream come true. Once she pitched the idea to them they were completely on board. Even better, Ju worked her styling magic by renting designer gowns and jewelry to come up with the most luxurious and glamorous wardrobe to help tell the cinematic story of past lovers romantic railway rendezvous.

From Kory and Ju:

HOW WE MET:

Our initial meeting was laughably unremarkable – Kory & I were introduced via mutual friends at an impromptu gathering at a bar (even more laughable because I don’t drink) and although we recall finding the other attractive, we went on our merry way without giving it much thought. So much for “love at first sight”. We didn’t cross paths again for almost 6 months.

Kory is very outdoorsy & athletic, and at the time he was an avid rock-climber. A few mutual friends & I decided to see what it was all about (if anything, I could look like a 2nd rate Lara Croft…. ok, maybe 3rd or 4th) and jumped onto some of his sessions at the climbing gym. It was through a progression of interactions and conversations over a couple of months at the gym that slowly built up to a huge spark – I clearly remember sitting up at my friend’s condo and blurting “Whoa, I think I really like Kory!”… and we made up for lost time – after our amazing first date, as crazy as it sounds, we both went home knowing we had found that special someone.

It was love at “second sight”.

PROPOSAL:

I love things that sparkle, twinkle, shine, and glitter (is that a verb?). No surprise that the holidays with all its festive accoutrements is my favorite time of year, and with this awareness, Kory treated me to a night at the Atlanta Botanical Gardens during their Garden Lights Holiday Nights event.

I’ll go ahead and admit, that evening my charm was running on empty and Ms. Grouchy was rearing its ugly head… it was one of the coldest nights of December in Atlanta and I was hungry, no, hangry. So, at the end, I was ready to book it back to the car, but Kory was insistent that I tell him which was my favorite light display. I gave him an exasperatingly confused look to which he explained,”I want to take a nice picture of you in front of it”. I softened at the sentimentality and walked him over to these beautiful large trees completely wrapped in lights.

He whipped out his phone, I gave my best ‘I-am-not-freezing-nor-am-I-hungry’ smile, and he took some shots. Per my usual habit, I asked to see the photos (most girls will understand this “insurance policy”) – but when I looked at his phone, it wasn’t me in front of a lighted tree with my ‘I-am-not-freezing-nor-am-I-hungry’ smile…. but rather a photo of himself holding a sign with the words “Will You Marry Me?”. He got down on one knee, and honestly I was in such shock that my first instinct was to slap him across the arm and blurt “Are you serious?!?”…. which is exactly what I did. From there, I went into a daze – I truly don’t remember a single word of his well-prepared one-kneed speech nor even myself saying “yes”.

But what I do remember is being so… very… happy.

WHAT WE FOUND W/ KELLY IS NICE:

How often does one get engaged and married!? Ok, don’t ask that to everyone… but for such momentous occasions, it was a top priority for us to preserve the memories with beautiful yet unique photos that we would be proud to show friends, family, & hopefully, grandkids. Plus, I have a horrible memory so I need photos to do the job my brain refuses to do – so why not just go ahead and make them beautiful?!

We have plenty of every day photos in every day clothes – even a few selfies, yes, I’ll admit. Instead, we really wanted something different & fun yet still timeless & classic. We realized if there’s ever a time you’re excused to play dress up with a full-blown themed engagement shoot, this is it – this was our opportunity. We knew we wanted an experience to look back on and find truly magical.

So we got working on the look, the feel, the locations, the details, etc… Kory loves suits, check! I love sparkly dresses, check! We love vintage, check! But we really knew it was going to be amazing when we found the perfect photographer! Kelly took it all to the next level – with an entire storyline, theme song, & vision. Thanks so much, Kelly – it was an unforgettable experience!
