The Red Sea

Taking a dip…

As promised, a bit more sunshine! I suppose when you think of Egypt, pyramids and the Great Sphinx come to mind, and when I go to a country it’s usually these historic landmarks that I seek out – but this wasn’t that kind of trip. Soma Bay is on a peninsula by the Red Sea, out of the way of everything but beach and relaxation, which makes a huge change from the city breaks that I usually book, but was very welcome indeed.

I’ve only ever been on one other sun holiday like this, but this time it wasn’t just about sitting by the pool. After a big hearty hotel breakfast at the Kempinski (at least three courses is the only way to do a hotel breakfast!) we made our way over to the Orca Diving Club, and as a very weak swimmer I was nervous to say the least. I was about to snorkel for the first time, and considering I usually panic when my feet can’t touch the floor, this was a pretty big deal.

After being told all the safety procedures, I braved the sea, holding my instructors hand as tightly as I could. After calming down, I took off by myself and was completely overwhelmed by the beautiful fish swimming around me. It’s something I absolutely can’t wait to do again, so perhaps I need to give exploring cities a bit of a break and make friends with the ocean instead! Did you see my underwater selfie?

More adventures from Egypt very soon! x
