Christmas in London

Jingle Bells

For a couple of weeks before leaving London, I made sure I had my camera to hand whenever I went out. I mean, Christmas shopping on Oxford Street is stressful enough without an added heavy weight around your neck, but I wanted to capture what I find so special about London at this time of year, especially as I know many of you are overseas but love London as much as I do.

I wish I could include smells too – cinnamon, pine trees, cold air, hot chocolate…perhaps if you pop on

this in the background and imagine a Salvation Army brass band playing across the road you’ll get the vibe.

Since being away in Portugal I’ve almost missed this Christmassy atmosphere. It’s not that they don’t have their own traditions or celebrate Christmas in the way we do in London, it’s just I’m a creature of habit and almost prefer to experience each Christmas in the same way as the one before it.

I still wake my brother up in the morning, and we still open our stockings sitting on my bed, hurrying Mum along so she can come and watch whilst the smell of Turkey wafts from downstairs, as Dad will have got up to start cooking it at a ridiculous time. I’m heading home tomorrow – a hot chocolate by the fire is going to be very welcome indeed.

There is something very special about Christmastime in London – I hope you agree! x
