How To: Cover Up Dark Circles

We’ve all been there… It’s Monday morning and our eyes are still dreaming of Sunday. The lack of sleep is evident as dark circles have taken up residence. Thank G-d for the magic of makeup, our peepers can give off the illusion of a good night’s rest. If only we knew how to actually cover up those telltale signs.

Here, Laura Mercier Global Makeup Artist Alexis Comforti, explains how to properly cover those pesky dark circles and puffy bags. All you need: Laura Mercier’s High Coverage Concealer and about 3 minutes. Specifically formulated for the under eye area and available in 12 shades, High Coverage is a serious multitasking product. It de-puffs, nourishes and brightens with a creamy, high-pigment formula.

“Choose a shade that best matches your skin tone, it should appear slightly brighter,” explains Alexis. “You don’t want it to have too much contrast against your skin, you want it to blend. If you only have slight darkness choose a lighter formula. If your dark circles are your troubled spot then choose a heavier, more pigmented coverage.”

The 3 minute how-to: “Prep eye area with proper skincare. Next, remove a small amount of High Coverage Concealer from the container and use the back of your hand as a palette to warm up the product. Using your brush, start by applying the product to the inner corner of the eye and start working outward. Use your index finger to gently tap the product in and to blend. Once you have reached your desired coverage and all of the shadows are covered, set with a translucent powder.”
Alexis’ Pick: Laura Mercier’s Secret Brightening Powder

Tools rule. “Use a small nylon fiber brush to apply the concealer, like Laura Mercier’s Secret Camouflage Brush. It allows you to reach the inner corner and apply product as needed.” I’ve been using Sephora’s Pro Airbrush Concealer Brush (#57) and I absolutely adore how seamlessly it applies my concealer. Sephora’s brush is a bit thicker on the stub, so you tap the concealer into the skin instead of rubbing. It also works wonders for keeping concealer in place — all day!
