Herb Drying

Got inspired by The Merry Thought's post featuring a DIY herb drying rack and decided to start drying my own herbs. I started collecting bunches of my favorite smelling ones like dill, oregano, parsley, mint, etc. This is when things get super complex....I tied them all up with some string and hung them to dry. Teehee, not much of a project but that's because I already had a wire hanging across a window in my kitchen and decided to use it for air drying each bundle. One thing I do suggest when finding a place to hang them is to not get the bundless too close to the kitchen where fumes, oil and other particles from cooking could tamper with the herbs. If they are hanging in the kitchen, keep them out of the area of the stove. Direct sunlight doesn't affect taste but it will bleach the color so just be aware. Mine are in the window so they will lighten as they dry. But I'll be totally honest and say that I did it mostly for pretties. Because they are beautiful and smell heavenly in my kitchen. But if they dry well, then they will be put to good practical use too ;)

You can check out The Merry Thought's post for instructions on creating a rack to hold all of your arrangements. Plus their photos are quite a bit more beautiful than mine. As much as I love my little window in the kitchen, anything I stick in said window just doesn't photograph too well. But needless to say they look beautiful and give off a nice harvest vibe as well as smelling amazing and being super useful once dried.
