Very rarely does a museum exhibit come along that's right up my alley, such as this one. Auckland Museum are currently hosting a collection from London's Victoria and Albert Museum, titled SELLING DREAMS: One Hundred Years of Fashion Photography. The exhibition encapsulates the glamour, mystery and drama of the world's most striking fashion photographs - featuring works by giants of twentieth century photography such as Edward Steichen, Irving Penn, Helmut Newton and David Bailey, alongside contemporary images by Miles Aldridge, Corinne Day, Rankin, Tim Walker and Steven Meisel. Set out chronologically from the very beginnings of fashion photography, the evolution of aesthetics and movements throughout the century are explored right up to the industry's current day contemporary works. My personal favourite from the exhibit is the image above - an outtake from an American Vogue fashion shoot in July 1981, a hard choice among many other iconic captures on display.

The exhibition is on at Auckland Museum until the 28th February. It's the perfect activity for the long weekend coming up. Entry is normally $10 but I have some double passes to giveaway! If you're in Auckland and would like to check it out for free, get in quick and give me an email or a message through Facebook.

And for those of you who are interested in going beyond the exhibition, there is also the Viva Smart Talk Series - a lineup of late Wednesday night events featuring floor talks and panel discussions by leading fashion designers, magazine editors, photographers. Check out the programme schedule here.
