The wait is over, fashion fans: Marques’Almeida x Topshop has hit stores – and it’s already shifting fast!

Featuring the design duo’s signature frayed denim and basics-with-a-twist, the capsule collection was inspired by Marta Marques’s teenage sister Sofia – and her ability to look consistently cool with zero effort – as well as their mainline collection for autumn/winter 2014.

“Our campaign is just about normal teenage girls bored in their bedroom – playing on their phones and taking selfies instead of doing their biology homework,” explained Marques.

“We were able to dig deep in our initial nineties obsessions and have quite a lot of fun with it. It became sort of a younger teenage sister version of M’A.”

Bridging the gap between day and evening wear, the exclusive capsule collection incorporates everything from satin flares and ankle length leather jackets to frayed denim mini skirts, chunky mules, and colourful faux fur accessories. And their nineties-meets-noughties aesthetic – which has already captured the hearts of fashion editors – is something the London-based duo think will particularly resonate with Topshop’s fashion-forward audience.

“As soon as it launches we’ll just be scrolling through Instagram to see how different girls style it in their own way,” said the duo. “We think Topshop girls will definitely identify with the grungy spirit.”

If the amount of insiders spotted wearing their pieces during fashion month is anything to go by – not to mention the crowd they attracted at their SS15 show, including fashion heavyweights Natalie Massenet and Caroline Rush – Marques’Almeida is the new name to know.
