A Photo A Day – Week 32 Roundup

After a lovely week at home with the family last week, it’s been a bit more back to normal this week, with me being back at work. The kids are still off school, so we’re trying to juggle childcare, which is always a challenge for working parents. This week my daughter spent two days at gymnastics camp with her best friend from school, which she really enjoyed. I do feel a little sorry for my son – we took him out of nursery so he could have some time with the family before he starts school, but then my daughter is going to a number of different holiday camps, all of which he is too young for! The kids are spending a lot more time together than they usually do, despite that, and they still seem to be getting on well (mostly!) and enjoying each others company. Here’s my selection of photos from this week:

Sunday 3 August 2014: A Note For Me

My daughter is getting used to how dreadful my memory is. Having asked me several times to put the Mulan soundtrack onto her iPad she finally resorted to leaving me a Post-It note on my iPad to remind me!

Monday 4 August 2014: #LightsOut

One hundred years ago today Britain declared war on Germany and the Great War, later called the First World War, began. To commemorate this centenary across the country we were encouraged to turn our lights out between 10pm and 11pm. This was extra poignant for me as I’m currently prompt for the Knutsford Little Theatre’s production of “My Boy Jack” – a play set during the time of the First World War.

Our rehearsal finished dead on 10pm, when we all adjourned to the theatre bar and sat in the candlelight for the full hour.

Tuesday 5 August 2014: That can’t be comfortable!

My son has started leaving his bedside light on as he goes to sleep, so I end up sneaking into his room when I’m on my way to bed to switch it off for him. This is how I found him this evening – fast asleep, and he didn’t stir when I turned his light off!

Wednesday 6 August 2014: Super Why

My son has discovered the American kids TV series Super Why, thanks to the Hopster app (which is kind of like Netflix for kids). As he was spending rather more time than I was comfortable with just staring mindlessly at the screen, I bought him the Super Why app to distract him. I prefer him to be playing with this as it’s more interactive. He’s enjoying it very much.

Thursday 7 August 2014: Learning about power tools

Under very close supervision my daughter learned to operate our electric screwdriver and helped putting out new dining chairs together.

Friday 8 August 2014: Growing Up So Fast

Where has my little girl gone, eh?

Saturday 9 August 2014: Rumble in the Jungle

There’s a special event happening in my Mum’s village over the summer. It’s like a scarecrow festival, but with a jungle theme. Throughout the village are a number of little jungle-themed displays, and the challenge is to find them all. Today I took the kids hunting, and we found our first few. Here they are in front of one of them – can you see the lion?
