Designer Craft Connection Blog Hop: Shiny Rhinestone Valentine Heart Favor Box

January is a special month for me because that's when the Craft and Hobby Association has its annual Winter trade show in Anaheim and boy is it fun! It's a chance for retailers, manufacturers, craft designers and others in the craft industry to "hobnob and confer". I always leave ready for the new year inspired and equipped with new ideas, products and business lessons learned.

Crafts and friends - now that's my kind of party!

This year, I was lucky to be invited to the FaveCrafts Blogger Event sponsored by Prime Publishing. Imagine speed dating but with craft product manufacturers and craft designers/bloggers. It was a wonderful way to meet companies and quickly learn about their newest products and about their blogging and pay-for-publication programs. Simone Collins, editorial and craft director at Prime Publishing did an amazing job putting together such a fun event. And to top off the evening, each participant was given four huge bags full of craft supplies from all of the sponsors! Totally awesome!

Two of the goodies in the bags were these really pretty rhinestone sheets by Darice and cheerful Tulip 3D paints. I decided to combine them and make these little blue heart favor boxes for this month's Designer Craft Connection Blog Hop. It's an easy project to make and just in time for Valentine's Day!

Here's how:

Materials:

Instructions:

1. Cut the rhinestone sheets into heart shapes using the die cut machine and die. (**Tip - you'll want to use a steel rule die because the sheets are pretty thick and thin dies won't work.)

2. Remove the plastic release liner from the backs of the hearts to expose the adhesive. Apply the hearts to the metal tin boxes. (**Tip - you can stack the pieces on top of each other. They'll stick!)

3. Decorate the metal tin boxes with the paints. Try lines, dots, squiggles - have fun! Set aside to dry at least one hour. (**Tip - if you goof up don't despair. Just wait until the paint has dried and then use a sharp kraft knife to cut and lift off those areas you don't like.)

4. Fill with goodies and give to your favorite Valentines!

Wouldn't these be great as favors for a wedding or shower? Just change the colors and the choice of die to personalize them especially for your special event. Add a handwrittern message and you've got a keepsake that anyone will be thrilled to receive!
