moving toward surgery.

(i love how she likes to sleep with both arms behind her head–just chillaxin!)

Baby Girl is 6 months old today.

she’s cooing and rolling and being pretty much all-around great!

the neurologist called today to explain that she presented Hazel’s case to the larger epilepsy team at Children’s National and the board was in agreement, after looking at her MRI and EEGs, that she would be a good candidate for surgery. Jon and i have had a gut feeling, all along, that this was going to be a very possible option for treatment.

the medications that Hazel is on right now are doing strange things. we were going up on the Trileptil, but now she’s started with lots of very small jerks/episodes in large clusters. she has a hard time sleeping during the day and that increases the seizures (although it’s hard to tell if the lack of naps is the cause or the effect). that said, we are going back down on the Trileptil and hoping that helps. she is still on Keppra which we are slightly increasing.

this beginning stage of discussing surgery is overwhelming as we obviously want the best neurologists and surgeons working on her. we are seeking a second opinion from Johns Hopkins and hoping that after meeting with them and the surgeons at Children’s National, we will have a clear direction. (please pray that we will).

i’m trying hard to find the balance between doing my due diligence with researching doctors/hospitals/surgery options and not getting overtaken with the fears that arise when i “google” and stumble on the worst-case scenarios. i’m taking my thoughts captive and holding on to the truth that God is not confused or overwhelmed by this all. His peace will be with us just as it was with Brother’s surgery. for that, i’m so incredibly thankful.

sidenote: it is really amazing to see God working in such tangible ways through this difficult time. we had a big bill that was due this week and wouldn’t you know——we got two checks (from completely out of the blue) that equaled the exact amount we needed! thank you, Jesus, for your unfailing provision!
