Grazia Italia

As those of you on the Instagram, Facebook, Twitter and Tumblr bandwagons would have seen in the past couple of weeks, I got a face on and shot and styled a sweet stripes story with Grazia Italia. For the full editorial and some sexy words of Italian (one of the many languages I wish I could speak), move along, but if you’ve been doubtfully eying your stripes that you thought were so chic when you bought them in Paris, but don’t seem to work back home, then read on.

Interestingly, stripes can be either the most flattering or outrageously unflattering pattern you could possibly wear. The key, without philosophising too much, seems to be keeping fits breezy and oversized, or limit them to outerwear – for any bulge becomes a bulge if your stripes are skintight. Having said that, it seems that diagonal stripes will mask even the generous of feminine endowments, and that mixing stripes of different thicknesses and spacings is not as intimidating as one might have imagined.

So, replace your Daisy Dukes with pinstriped trousers so wide that they ought to be sheets, and a lipstick so furious that the stripes are an afterthought. You can keep the pool slides, though, because Céline said so, and your post-swim hair too, if you promise not to smile.

And now, I have three hundred pages of readings to do, so if you’ll excuse me…
