Southwestern Swag: Fall Accessories

If you've been following my Land Art Road Trip adventures on HY.GEN.IC, then you already know that I've spent the majority of autumn camping throughout the American Southwest. Needless to say it was unlike anything I've ever done before, but that doesn't mean I completely neglected my creative roots. I was inspired in a variety ways- artistically, personally, mentally, but what I didn't write about was the style inspiration I found while I was away. To my surprise it was everywhere. From the great variety of earth's natural colors to the cultures of the natives, there was no limit to the outfit ideas I conjured in my head. Two things that struck me the most were the burnt orange sandstone I saw throughout the southwestern states I visited, as well as the accessories synonmous with the people leaving down there. When I returned home I found myself attracted to accessories that reminded me of those people and places.

One of my favorite bags is a beautiful Hayden Harnett leather over the shoulder handbag. Aside from its color, which matched many beautiful sunsets and the environment of the Valley of Fire, it is perfect and useful in many different ways. For one, there is a compartment for everything. You will never lose anything in this bag because it makes everything so easy to organize. It's really a no hassle accessory and adds an extra dose of color to any dull outfit. For those afraid to have a boldy colored bag, I strongly reccomend taking the risk with this one. It's not too dramatic, yet still bold and attractive. Shoewear was also an interest of mine. Throughout the south I was delighted to find that cowboy culture still reigned. There were leather and boot stores so grand and abundant I really couldn't believe it. Many of these leather cowboy boots went for hundreds of dollars, nearly around the same price as monthly rent in Brooklyn. Luckily, western boot brand, Durango, has a more affordable alternative with more of an edge to it. I don't think I could go full cowboy boot, so I went with these Durango Philly City Shorty boots. They're slightly cowboy, slightly New York which results in a perfect mix of the two. They're comfortable and durable too, which is definitely a plus as the weather worsens.
These two accessories are my favorite this fall, but I would definitely look into both brands because they have a lot of great product out right now. I hope I get to visit the Southwest again soon.
