Marchesa’s ten year anniversary homecoming to London has been highly anticipated – Keren Craig and Georgina Chapman didn’t disappoint. Inspired by a ‘modern-gypsy Woodstock spirit’, a bohemian collection full of charm and clear displays of the duo’s attention to craftsmanship and detail ensued.
Held in London’s opulent Banqueting House, Georgia May Jagger opened the show in a white, tiered lace and tulle gown, with bold floral threadwork woven throughout. A whimsical feel was evident across the board, with billowing fairytale princess-like sleeves, a saccharine sweet palette and delicate embroideries that grew up from hemlines.
As the collection developed, cobalt blue and yellow were introduced with tropical birds hand-painted on a shift dress and tea-length skirt. The added drama was followed by cocktail dresses, sensual gauzy lace and chic tailoring, including backless ruffled shirts and a backless duchess satin blazer.
The finale was every bit as beautiful as the start. In the run-up, we loved the bold pink skirt with a floral embroidered t-shirt top on Jacquetta Wheeler. Lastly a dusty v-neck tulle gown was unveiled, complete with romantic full skirt and sleeves, with pastel feathers and crystals trailing down the front, back and subtle train, and on a headpiece, crafted in to fantastical flowers.
