We love cashmere at Jigsaw; it’s one of the softest natural fibers available and ours comes on an incredible journey before being transformed into the sweaters and cardigans available for you to wear.

It starts its journey in the hills and mountains of Mongolia where herders work tirelessly all year round, obtaining silky soft hair from Kashmir goats. Coming from hair as opposed to wool, cashmere is both light and soft with a fine texture, lending itself well to lightweight knitwear while remaining incredibly warm; a real investment piece for winter months.

We have a kaleidoscope of cashmere available this season and to keep it looking fresh we have some handy care tips to offer. After all, in the words of Frances Walker our Head of Menswear, “Nothing else feels like wearing a hug”.

LOVE ME
The friction of wear can cause pilling on your new investment. Do not fear – it’s super-easy to fix, and will have your knitwear looking brand new in a minute or two. Invest in a good cashmere comb (we provide one with your purchase) to use after every couple of wears and the fibers will stay silky soft for longer.

CLEAN ME
Some cashmere items are dry clean only, but in most cases you can wash your knits at home by hand. Regular hand washing will keep your new knits fresh and fluffy. An insider tip is to use a tiny drop of baby shampoo to clean with and it will keep it super soft. Always wash very carefully in cool water, and never wring. Reshape when wet (making sure buttons are done up and sleeves and hems are straight), lie flat- between two clean towels and allow to dry naturally. A little patience is needed here – hanging on a hanger while wet may also cause it to become misshapen so keep it flat until dry.

STORE ME
Now, a care guide on cashmere wouldn’t be complete without at least a little mention of moths. It doesn’t matter how carefully you de-pill and wash your cashmere – if you get a little visit from moths, your hard work will have been in vain. The best option is to pack your knits away in airtight plastic bags between seasons. Placing a lavender bag or hanging some rosemary will further deter the moths. If you do find small holes and suspect it could be moths, put your garment in the freezer to kill any insects and ensure the holes stop there.
