Say Goodbye to Survival Mode Challenge: Day 1

It’s one of my favorite times of the year! I love the fresh start feeling of January 1st. If you’ve read my blog for awhile, you know I LOVE to set goals and plan away!!

I always get overambitious Jan. 1st and set lots of goals. In my mind, I’m okay with not achieving all of the them. I think just the process of thinking through what goals I want to set and then writing them down helps me refocus and remind myself of my priorities. Last year I resolved not to set year goals, but to set goals a few months at a time. I think that DID help me accomplish more of my goals. Although, after June when Ain was born, I didn’t really set any more monthly goals (other than my 30 before 30 project). So I did fizzle out a little – but having a newborn was a pretty good excuse!

This year, I’m taking a little bit extra time to set my monthly goals (and I’m going to set a few ongoing goals).

I have a few simple goals for January:

1) analyze and set goals for Feb – March

2) talk over my goal ideas with my husband

3) declutter and organize the basement

4) take on Money Saving Mom’s Say Goodbye to Survival Mode Challenge this week

Say Goodbye to Survival Mode Challenge: Day 1

Just Say No

Yes, my husband and I have been taking on too much!! It’s hard though – balancing a young baby, church activities and leadership responsibilities and part time jobs we are BUSY! But isn’t everyone? We need to learn to say no and focus on spending time on our priorities in this order: family, church, work.

Before committing to anything new I want to:

1) Count the costs - What am I going to have to give up in order to do this thing or attend this event or volunteer in this way or write this post? Is it worth what I’m giving up? If not, then I will say no.

2) Give yourself grace – Keep refocusing on what is important (family, church, work) and don’t stress over what’s being left undone.

3) Practice saying no – Money saving mom’s challenge for today is to write a to-do list for tomorrow. Include everything on your plate, from the moment you wake up until you go to bed. Then, force yourself to immediately eliminate three items from your list. Just cross them out. This helps you to practice learning to evaluate your activities and commitments.

Leave a comment telling me what three things you’re eliminating from your to-do list today.

I will mention mine in a comment as well!
