Hello!! If you are just joining us now, check out my first post, describing the plan of action and what I’m tackling. I did finish going through all the master bedroom today (minus my husband’s clothes)!! It feels so good to have a cleaned up and decluttered room!
Today I went through:
- My purses. I only got rid of 1 purse, so now I’m down to having 5 to rotate through, depending on the season. I happy with that number, since they don’t take up too much space and they are all in pretty good condition.
- Bookcase. We have a lot of books. So many, that we have to have a bookcase in our bedroom. I would rather the bedroom be less cluttered (and the bookcase just seems to take up so much looming space), but for now we don’t have a place for it elsewhere. I did get rid of 4 books from the bookcase, though! And as I go through the house, maybe, getting rid of other things we’ll have space for it somewhere. Maybe. (Sorry for the blurriness of the picture – cell phone camera.)
- Extra shampoos and hotel samples (that have been in my closet for over a year)!! About the same time I found out I was pregnant with Ain, I had my hair wave permed and the salon said to use only sulfate-free shampoo. Well, I’ve done some reading and I have used only sulfate-free shampoo ever since. (And there was that time I tried to go no poo. But not for very long. I have very oily hair.) Anyway, when I went with sulfate-free shampoo, I rid the bathroom of all the shampoos that I had been using. I couldn’t TOTALLY get rid of them, cause, you know, I spent money on them. But now it’s been over a year and I still haven’t gone back to them. So, today I was happy to get them out of the house!
If you have more time to go through your master bedroom then go for it!!
Here’s a handy list of decluttering things to do in the master bedroom:
-
Throw away any trash
-
Remove obvious clutter from the furniture and floor
-
Simplify what items you have on the furniture
-
Sort through the storage under the bed
-
Go through and organize every dresser drawer
-
Weed through hanging clothes
-
Sort and organize shoes
-
Pick up jewelry
-
Remove any other closet clutter
-
Wash sheets and make bed (such a good feeling!)
-
Dust and vacuum
-
Wash any mirrors and window
I didn’t have time to go through my shoes today (I had a few other things to do during Ain’s nap time, so I only set the timer for 30 min). Another day I’ll come back to the bedroom and go through my shoes (same time as I go through the shoes in the entryway closet).
For now, I’m moving on the basement – which needs a LOT of work. So, tomorrow I’ll report on what I get done in the basement storage area!
