My Hairstory at If You Knew

When I started doing hair at Bumble and bumble, we trained by cutting the same haircut over and over again until we perfected it. We had to find 3-4 different "models" to come in and get a free haircut every week. You'd think it's easy to find someone who would want a free haircut in NYC but it was hard work! After finishing the program, I would keep having classes like this with my co-workers where instead of bringing in someone to get a specific haircut, we all brought someone we found inspiring and gave them a new look. Education and keeping yourself inspired is a huge part of being a hairdresser and part of why I love doing what I do.

Last time I was in New York for fashion week, I was invited to hang out with some of my old friends and mentors at a creative studio called If You Knew where a select number of hairdressers cut and color individuals' hair and capture their new looks on film. It's the education and inspiration I described before multiplied by 10. I can't wait to go back and work with them again.

While there, I got my hair styled and snipped a little bit and was interviewed about my hair. I talk about how my career got started, which is something I often get asked about on the blog. Watch my hair story below:

P.S. My grey hair now perfectly matches my dog's hair. Twinner photos to come. Thank you Haley Ozell at Little Axe Salon.
