Review: Maybelline SuperStay Better Skin foundation

A good base is the key to good makeup, so I am quite fussy when it comes to foundation. Recently, as part of their SuperStay range, Maybelline New York has launched Better Skin, a foundations claiming to improve the appearance of dull, blotchy and uneven skin.

So, I put it to the test. Better Skin contains Actyl C, zinc, provitamin B5, magnesium, copper, flex technology (which adapts to skin movement, being tightness-preventing), glycerine (attracts moisture and makes skin look hydrated and radiant) and SPF 20, which is great to see in makeup.

The foundation is of a light creamy consistency and very smooth, blending extremely well and gliding upon application. The coverage is a solid medium, but because it spreads so well, you could wear it as a light coverage product. In terms of buildability, it is just ok, but for me, the medium on this is enough, to be honest.

Now, there is something about this foundation in the light; I actually felt my skin (with all its huge flaws), indeed looked fresher, more radiant and natural. I am using the Golden shade, which matches my skin colour, but seems to give it an overall warm glow.

Durability is good, it endures a whole day in the office losing just a bit of glow, retaining a decent coverage. Better Skin is a hydrating foundation, and I can fell it; at points a bit too much, especially in the morning and in the T-Zone, as my skin is oil prone, but I noticed this serves my skin right as the day passes and my skin doesn’t look thirsty at the end of the day.

My main problem with foundation is how it feels after a few hours, as my skin dehydrates and the scars become more visible – sometimes it just feels greasy, sometimes it just sinks in the scars. This seemed to happen less – in fact one day I got home from work, caught my reflection in the mirror and thought I looked well and less dull, dry and tired than usual. This is a good thing!

I was pleasantly surprised with this one, it is a good everyday foundation which won’t break the bank.

Maybelline New York SuperStay foundation is widely available in the UK in eight shades and the RRP is £8.99. Currently, Superdrug and Boots have it on 3 for 2!

This post contains PR samples. This review, however, is based on my own true experience with the products and reflects my honest opinion on them.
