So Many Lovely Things

agua Bathhouse & Spa at the Mondrian London launch

Who doesn’t like a spa? Well, I am sure it is hard to find someone who would say no to its wonders. The Mondrian London hotel (part of the Morgan’s group) has just added a new spa destination to the city’s relaxation circuit: agua Bathhouse & Spa.

The Mondrian London is a spanking new hotel located at Sea Containers, on the Thames Riverside, which takes into its soul the 1920’s cruise ship vibe together with modern, sophisticated twists and fabulous views. Apart from the agua Bathhouse & Spa, the hotel counts with a restaurant, gym, a rooftop bar and a private cinema.

The agua Bathhouse & Spa carries a different concept as spas go: it is a relaxing place, but also a place to have fun and socialise, very much like the ancient Roman bath houses; they labelled it as a “spa playhouse”.

It has a retro vibe, but extremely clean lines. As it is below the Thames level, they tried to make you feel as if you are under water – light effects as you enter make sure you do indeed – I felt a bit mermaid-y, but maybe that is just me!

In the spa, apart from the six treatment rooms, Spa Lounge, rain shower and steam baths, you can find the Glamour Lounge, where the music can be loud for a pamper party, from £90 per person (champagne cocktail, express mani and pedi plus a Ciaté polish to take home).

If it is not a party, fear not, you can book treatments for yourself. Remember to get in there early to have a steam and shower before donning you luxurious robe for treatments.

For me, a calm place that allows for a bit of excitement still (you can order champagne and afternoon tea to have in the spa!) is just perfect, as I am very hyper and struggle with extremely quiet places.

I also like that they have a holistic beauty approach which translates into the niche luxury brands they work with: GLAMGLOW, SOVERAL, Dr. Jackson’s Natural Products, Estelle & Thild, Natura Bisse, CIATÉ, de mamiel, Billion Dollar Brows, Lola’s Apothecary, I Love My Muff and Lycon Waxing.

Basically, Jac, their fabulous spa manager, researched for two years to create a different spa experience. And I am impressed, not only because it is a beautiful and soothing space (and maybe because everyone was super nice and gave me champagne) but also – and mainly – because everyone, including the brands involved, seems to share a vision they are extremely passionate about and work together to make it happen.

Treatments offered range from massages (Soveral), facials (Soveral and Estelle and Thild and Natura Bisse) , body treatments (Dr. Jackson’s Natural Product and agua Signature) to facial acupuncture (De mamiel).

Of course, in the agua Glamour Lounge you can get a Ciaté manicure and pedicure, brows from Billion Dollar Brows and Lycon precision waxing.

The treatment prices, I have to say, are pretty good – for example, an exfoliating mud steam and wrap, for half an hour, costs only £55; massages and facials are also priced from £55, which is not bad at all.

Their Boosters are also very neat price-wise: £75 for 50-minute body exfoliation aromatherapy massage or organic facial massage!

The Rumpus Room, on the rooftop, deserves a post for itself. I swear, they have the prettiest and tastiest crudités in the whole of the planet. Everything was perfect, service impeccable but the view is really what will win you. I certainly found my new champagne-sipping joint.

I did ask the Mondrian Hotel if I could live there… it is just amazing – and I didn’t even get in a room! The Mondrian is part of the Morgan’s Hotel group, which has some of my fave hotels under their belt (read Sanderson and Hudson in NY), so no wonder it did not disappoint me.
