Shift

"Our eyes only see the big dimensions, but beyond those there are others that escape detection because they are so small." - Brian Greene

One could argue the official deadline has passed for sleeveless mini dresses. And admittedly, hitting that 35 degree sting the other morning almost convinced me of that reality. But then the goosebumps settled down and my body relaxed to some level of homeostasis and I remembered what lengths royals would go to to achieve the pale skin I had managed in a matter of seconds. Guess frigidity is just a different kind of buzz. Besides, what are coats for, if not for avenging our right to dress sleeveless in November?

Everyone has their own way of gauging whether or not something's worth the seasonal repercussions, and for me, this dress most certainly is. Mainly because it's so visually misleading. From far away, it looks like this singularly dimensional print against a basic white shift. The closer you get, however, you realize this blown-out, stripped down honeycomb is an entirely separate layer, and the shadows it casts onto the white dress add dimension otherwise unnoticeable. Perhaps I'm partial to the way I gravitate towards people, but I'm always attracted to the articles of clothing that thrive off their own peculiarity and the details constructing that individuality.
