Almost There

Lots to do this morning before Mike gets home and we take off for the weekend, but I couldn't resist showing you one more picture of We are the World. I finished the binding yesterday, and I'm so happy with how this turned out.

While I was finishing hand-stitching the binding last night, I noticed that I'd completely forgotten to quilt one of the sashing areas. No problem. I can still add it, but sheesh. It still needs a label, but I'll have to do that next week.
If you like that rainbow flange, here is a link to the tutorial I used. Cut your strip width according to how wide you want your flange to be, keeping in mind that your quilt binding will take up 1/4-inch and anything leftover will be the width of your flange. In this case, I cut my strips one inch wide. Folded in half, makes it 1/2-inch wide, then when the binding is attached o1/4-inch of flange is still showing. I've done less, but I think 1/4-inch is a good width on a large quilt like this one. Also, I stitched mine 1/8-inch from the edge of my quilt just to be certain the binding would cover the flange stitching. (I hope that makes sense.)
And here's a question: Do you think this quilt could promote world peace?

Just sayin'.

Okay...I'm off...but you already knew that, didn't you? This morning I'm making steak marinade, pancake batter, oatmeal breakfast bread, and a cucumber salad. Shouldn't take too long, but I need to get a move on, and I need to get packing...and I need to charge my camera batteries...and I need to remember my rain gear...yes, it's raining. Who woulda thought?

Incidentally, I was watching the Mississippi River flooding in some of the areas we will be traveling to this fall. You would think we were already there! So if you're in those areas, please stay warm and dry. I'll be keeping good thoughts for you. Have a good weekend. Pin It
