Fragmented Friday

It feels as if the day was wasted, although that's probably overstating it. The day isn't over yet, but it's one of those times where the activities of the day make me want to just start over again and take another shot at it.

Before I tell you about today, however, I'll redeem it by showing you what I did yesterday. For one thing, it was a positively beautiful sunrise on Thursday morning:

That was good way to start out the day. There was nothing on the calendar, and so I spent most of the day in the sewing room. I finished cutting out all the pieces for my fall table runner:

I still need to cut out the centers for the leaves that you see here in the image from the book:

I'll trace those onto a single piece of fusing medium, and then cut them out when I'm ready to fuse them to the background leaves. For yesterday's efforts, I got the five background blocks made, and I sewed all the border pieces together. Then I was able to get one of the side border sewn onto the piece. This is a very long runner, and so I'm only showing you part of it. Each of the five blocks with its borders and sashings is 16 1/2 inches square.

The rest of the borders are sewn together, and I'll get those sewn onto the runner when I sew again tomorrow.

For grins, I laid one of the background leaves onto one of the blocks to see how it was going to fit. It already has fusing medium pressed around the edges, and so it wants to curl up a little. My iron and I will take care of that when the time comes.

So I'm off to a pretty good start with that even if today's efforts did not amount to anything at all. Instead, today I went to the dentist. I did a little embroidery this morning, but I had to cut my session short in order to make it to my 9:50 a.m. dental appointment. I arrived with plenty of time to spare, only to discover that my appointment time was at 10:50, not 9:50. Oy.
"Do you want to go get a cup of coffee?" the receptionist inquired, politely. "Not really," I said. "I want to be here at the right time."
And what are you going to do in a case like that, but take your seat and shut your mouth. I even went so far as to search out the reminder email they sent me last month. Sure enough, the reminder email said 10:50 a.m. Oh well. It gave me a chance to read a Kindle book I've been working on for a ridiculously long time. Usually the only reading I do these days is the listening kind. I like to listen to audio books while I sew, which means my Kindle books get short shrift. I try not to read anything with a plot line, and then I can pick it up again even if it's been six months since the last time I looked at it. Tell me I'm not the only one who reads like that these days.
And then, to add insult to injury, I asked the dentist to take a look at my implant because sometimes when I bite down, even on soft foods, it sends a jolt into my jaw. "Well," he said, "the implant looks great. The tooth behind it, on the other hand, has cracks on both sides. You're going to need to sell your children to pay for a crown for that one." Sigh. That's not what I wanted to hear. I guess Christmas is canceled this year. And again, nothing to do but cough up the dough. (Emphasis on the coughing.) Too bad I don't get to be a princess along with that new crown.
Oh well. There is good news to report. Yesterday was Erik's 35th birthday. Just look at that sweet face:

His baby picture is cute too, don't you think? Makes you want to hug him and kiss him, doesn't it? Now, Gracie and Smitty get all my affection since that little tyke is long gone. Oh well, he's a good hugger even at his age...and so much more substantial. I can hug him even tighter.

The whole fam will be here for dinner on Sunday. Erik requested meatloaf for his birthday dinner. Go figure. It was one of his favorites growing up. I gave him a choice between apple crisp and apple pie for dessert. I would have bet money he'd choose the crisp. Nope. He chose pie, and so pie it is. After I left the dentist, I needed to pick up groceries to get through the weekend, and so I'll be cooking off and on and sewing in between.

Our rainy weather isn't predicted to hit until Tuesday now, so we're hoping for a nice weekend. I hope you have a nice weekend too. Pin It
