Marco Lachi: Sanatorium

Sanatorium by Marco LachiMarco Lachi is an Italian photographer. Once working as a planner in an architecture studio, he then took a photography course at Fondazione Studio Marangoni and decided to take up that profession. Even before his graduation in 2007, his work was already visually stunning. In the Sanatorium series he investigates how an abandoned place was changing over the years. The beautiful pastel-coloured pictures make the derelict building seem like a cosy, sentimental place. "I returned to this place repeatedly and for different reasons over the span of a year. Then I began to enter it assiduously in the last months and noticed changes, small changes, despite its having been abandoned. Objects that had become familiar to me had moved or were missing. At a certain point my visits seemed to coincide with perceived changes: I felt a need to record their presence before they vanished." Words: Marco Lachi, Thisispaper Photography: Marco Lachi
