Masha Reva: Volya Series

Volya Series by Masha RevaVolya Series is the third collaboration between a young Ukrainian designer Masha Reva and Syndicate of Kiev. Volya stands for "freedom" in Ukrainian. The collection is inspired by the events of winter 2013, when the protest movement in Kiev, Ukraine, broke out. Chaotic graphic elements symbolize the process of change and the creation of a new country, in which most of the Ukrainians got directly involved. The designer and her team had put a lof of thought into the way the collection was going to be photographed. They were aware that the theme they chose was heavy and caused a lot of dark and tragic associations. They decided that the photographs should be as light as possible and that they needed to keep the focus on the main idea of change and the process of creating a new country. The team viewed this process as a bit naive, resembling a return to childhood. Models chosen for the campaign are people of different professions and age. They are presented as children surrounded by a variety of objects that look like giant toys. The message of the story is to not forget to dream, as only children can.
