Jarmund/Vigsnæs AS Arkitekter MNAL: White House

White House by Jarmund/Vigsnæs AS Arkitekter MNAL Jarmund/Vigsnæs AS Arkitekter MNAL is an architecture studio located in Oslo, Norway. Established in 1996, the studio works on a wide range of projects, mainly in Norway. The designers specialise in public buildings and housing projects. They are, however, also involved in urban planning and interior design as they aim to work across different fields of architecture. To avoid being associated with a certain style, the team of Jarmund/Vigsnæs emphasises the originality of concept for every single project. White House is a single family house located in southern Norway. With its sharp, geometrical shapes, it stands out from the other buildings in this densely inhabited neighbourhood. The house is clad with painted wooden panels, both inside and outside. What makes it so distinctive, is that walls and ceilings on the first floor are finished in oak, while floor and walls of the ground floor are concrete. With its view on the western Oslo fjord, White House is not only a project that shines in the architects' portfolio, but also a perfect everyday family shelter. One of the main ideas of Jarmund/Vigsnæs Architects is that architecture should not be satisfying but exciting, not pretty but interesting. White House fullfills all these requirements while being pretty, too. Words: Thisispaper Photography: Courtesy of Jarmund/Vigsnæs AS Arkitekter MNAL
